【Committee Introduction】

General Assembly First Committee (GA1), or Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), is the committee established under the United Nations General Assembly. The Committee deals with matters of disarmament, threats to global peace and topics related to international security. As one of the six main committees under General Assembly, DISEC provides a platform for all UN Member States to have general debate and thematic discussions on the maintenance of international peace and security. For the mandate and works of GA1, it has close cooperation with and provides substantive support to many other bodies under UN system, e.g. United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs. To successfully and effectively counter the rising tensions in the current international community, the role of General Assembly First Committee comes to become very crucial.
